The Sheriff is entitled to his fee, whether or not the service is successful, in accordance with GC 26738
Please make checks payable to Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. All personal checks must have the complete name and address of the requestor and preprinted by the bank.
GENERAL Service of Process
This information is for requests for service of small claims, summons & complaint, summons & petition, notices, and other types of legal action.
Fee: $50
Checklist:
- $50 fee
- Request for Sheriff to Serve Court Papers form
- One (1) copy of documents to be served or two (2) copies if substitute service is requested. (Note: Not all documents can be sub-served.)
Service of Process issued from Out of State
Fee: $50
Notary fee, if notarization is required, additional fee of $15
Checklist:
- $50 for each person to be served
- Documents to be served
- Request for Sheriff to Serve Court Papers form
- If notary or notary authentication is required, it must be stated in the instructions and the appropriate fees paid.

Restraining Order -DV(Domestic Violence)
Fee: waived
Checklist:
- Request for Sheriff to Serve Court Papers form
- Documents for service
- Any order submitted must have:
- A Judge’s signature or other representation of a Judge’s signature
- Clerk’s endorsement or seal or other court endorsement (certified)
Restraining Order - CH (Civil Harassment)
Fee: $50
- No fee with fee waiver or Temporary Restraining Order is granted and ordered by the court to serve without charge
Checklist:

- Any order submitted must have:
- A Judge’s signature or other representation of a Judge’s signature

Restraining Order -EA (Elder Abuse)
Fee: waived

Restraining Order - WV (Workplace Violence)
Fee: $50
- No fee with fee waiver or Temporary Restraining Order is granted and ordered by the court to serve without charge (see item #11 on WV-110 form)

Summons and Complaint UNLAWFUL DETAINER
Fee: $50
Checklist for notices:
- $50 fee per person to be served
- Request for Sheriff to Serve Court Papers form
- One (1) copy of documents to be served on each tenant or two (2) copies if substitute service is requested
- If serving a Pre-Judgment Claim of Right to Possession additional fees and documents are required. Email or call our office for information.
Bench Warrants Civil
Bench warrants must come directly from the court to the sheriff.
INSTRUCTIONS AND FEES MUST BE PROVIDED BY THE REQUESTOR.
Fee payable by CHECK/cashier’s check only:
$50 if issued pursuant to CCP 491.160(a)(1)(A) or 7055.170(a)(1)(A)
$175 if issue pursuant to CCP 1993 or 491.160(a)(1)(b)
NO fee if issued pursuant to CCP 1209

Eviction (Writ of Possession of Real Property)
Fee: $180

Earnings Withholding Order
Fee: $45
Checklist:
- $45 fee
- Application for the Earnings Withholding Order
- Optional: Social Security numbers may only be submitted using Form WG-035
- Electronic Writ Declaration, if applicable (See CCP 687.010 (e) regarding e-filed writs)
- Address Verification Declaration for judgments issued for personal debt (CCP 684.130), if applicable
- Writ of Execution (Money Judgment)
- Copy of affidavit which accompanied the application for Issuance of Writ of Execution authorizing support (support writ only)
Bank Levy / Third Party Levy
Fee: $50
Checklist:
- $50 fee
- Request for Sheriff to Serve Court Papers form and Special Instructions for Writs and Levies form
- Address Verification Declaration for judgments issued for personal debt (CCP 684.130), if applicable
- Writ of Execution (Money Judgment)
- One certified copy of an unexpired fictitious business name statement (if applicable).
- Affidavit of identity (if applicable).
- Original court order authorizing a levy on a third person’s bank account (if applicable).
Keeper 8-Hour
Fee: $300 Fee

Till Tap Levy
Fee: $125

Vehicle Levy
Deposit: $2,500 (large vehicles may require additional deposits)
Checklist:
- $2,500 deposit
- Request for Sheriff to Serve Court Papers form and Special Instructions for Writs and Levies form
- Instructions must include a license plate number or VIN of the vehicle
- Address Verification Declaration for judgments issued for personal debt (CCP 684.130), if applicable
- Writ of Execution (Money Judgment)
Claim and Delivery Requirements
Fee: $125 + $500 Deposit
Checklist:
- Deposit varies
- Request for Sheriff to Serve Court Papers form and Special Instructions for Writs and Levies form
- Signed instructions from the attorney of record indicating the property to be levied upon.
- Instructions must state if a Summons and Complaint should or should not be served on the defendant
- The address for the enforcement of the writ. Note: The address for enforcement of the writ and the property description must match the writ exactly.
- Any special information such as an agent
- Writ of Possession – Claim & Delivery
- Order for Possession – Claim & Delivery
- Undertaking/Bond, if required
Real Property Levy Requirements
Writ of Execution-Money Judgment
Deposit: $2,500
Checklist:
- $2,500 deposit
- Writ of Execution
- Request for Sheriff to Serve Court Papers form and Special Instructions for Writs and Levies form
- Address Verification Declaration for judgments issued for personal debt (CCP 684.130), if applicable
- Instructions from the attorney of record containing:
- Legal description
- Commonly known address
- Record owners-names and address
- Statement indicating whether the property is a dwelling
Writ of Sale-Real Property
Deposit: $2,500
Checklist:
- $2,500 deposit
- Writ of Sale
- Certified copy of the judgment
- Request for Sheriff to Serve Court Papers form and Special Instructions for Writs and Levies form
- Instructions from the attorney of record containing:
- Legal description
- Commonly known address
- Record owners-names and address
- Statement indicating whether the property is a dwelling

Writ of Attachment
Deposit: $500
Checklist:
- $500 deposit (additional funds may be requested if additional parcels are recorded)
