Canine

Due to their olfactory abilities (sense of smell), the Sheriff’s Office uses canine as a tool to locate both illegal contraband and suspects who pose a significant threat of violence to members of the public and deputies. Canine teams are highly trained and deputies must follow specified guidelines, as outlined in policy and case law, prior to using a canine as a force option when apprehending a suspect.
